Monkton Wylde Court — Sustainable Gothic mansion on the Jurassic coast
Monkton Wyld Court is a registered Charity based in a Grade II listed 19th Century Neo-Gothic rectory in an idyllic location in Dorset. The mansion is surrounded by 11 acres of land, set in a secluded valley within walking distance of Lyme Regis and Dorset’s Jurassic coast.
The house and grounds, include a meeting hall, a marquee and a private cabin.
The main house has 13 bedrooms over three floors and can comfortably sleep up to 37 guests. The secluded ‘Wyld Lodge’ can be additionally hired for a hideaway.
Half house venue hire is for groups of up to 20 people and includes shared use of the Visitors Dining Room, Piano Room and outside space. Whole house venue hire is from 20 – 37 people and includes use of The Old Library, the Visitors Dining Room, Piano Room and our outside guest spaces all to yourselves.
The largest of the spaces is Pine Hall, just outside the main house. This measures 13m x 7m and has a stage with a piano and a sprung wooden floor suitable for dancing. The second is the Old Library on the ground floor of the main house, overlooking the terraces. This measures 8.5m x 6m and is a light, elegant and almost-empty room with a large bay window. Both spaces come pre-heated when needed by cosy wood burning stoves, have adjacent toilets, and can be furnished with cushions or chairs/tables for seating and/or working.
We have our own marquee that measures 30m x 30m and can be extended if need be along with a modest PA system. We also host weddings on the proviso it is as low-impact and eco-friendly as possible. You do the planning we provide the space.
Special Features
The whole house is also available for courses, retreats, workshops, weddings, events and large groups.
Indoors
Plenty of communal areas, offering period features and panoramic views of the countryside, and heated by wood-burning stoves. There is a beautiful sitting room with a grand piano, and a shop selling chocolate, postcards, natural toiletries and other essentials, as well as a hall with a stage and sprung dance floor.
Kitchen: Large traditional vegetarian kitchen with a scullery, larder and Aga and gas cooker, separate small kitchen where meat can be cooked. access to 3 fridges, however freezer space is limited.
No Tv, but a projector can be provided to watch movies and for presentations.
WIFI is limited to the old library, Piano room, Pine valley, Foal range and a part of the grounds.
Outdoors
Terraced lawns, a fire-pit, an outdoor kitchen and classroom and a small fully-licensed pub surround the mansion. The grounds include woodland areas, an orchard, fields leading down to a stream and a Victorian walled vegetable garden. Also, our water comes from our own wells and rainwater collection tanks, our waste is processed through our wetland filtration system, and some of our outbuildings run on solar energy.
Parking for 2 cars on site, plus we have access to a field for up to 50.

Near to the beautiful Lyme Regis, Charmouth and Dorset’s world-famous Jurassic coast and close to the Dorset, Devon and Somerset borders, Monkton Wyld Court is perfectly located for both peaceful countryside breaks, and as a base for exploring the surrounding area. The region is packed with activities and sights, whether it’s fossil hunting, walks along the stunning Jurassic coast, iron age hill forts, crabbing, donkeys, caves, trains or adventure playgrounds. We are also only 30 miles from Exeter, gateway to beautiful Dartmoor, 38 miles from Glastonbury and 40 miles from Bournemouth.
