The Quarry is a large, luxury, child friendly, detached Victorian house standing in half an acre of private, terraced gardens. It has magnificent views over Ilfracombe & out to sea. This unique, self catering villa backs directly onto the South West coastal path, with the nearest beach a 5 min walk away. The 3 miles of golden sands & great surf at Woolacombe are just a 10 min drive. The rooms are all light, bright & spacious. The chic & stylish interior combines contemporary & vintage pieces in a very comfortable & homely manner. The house is detached & sits in 1/2 acre of private terraced gardens & enjoys spectacular views from the many terraces. All the rooms are their original size, so there’s a wonderful feeling of space.
The downstairs has a stunning 38ft long sitting room/dining room/library with log fire & french doors onto a completely enclosed seaview terrrace. The huge kitchen is tremendously well equipped with AGA, extra sized oven, gas hob, American fridge/freezer, microwave, cool larder, laundry room with washing machine & tumble drier & a downstairs loo. As well as the dining room to seat 13 there is a smaller dining area, to seat 6, in the kitchen. Majority of the 7 bedrooms have views out over Ilfracombe towards the sea. All are large, with good quality beds & lovely linen. Two rooms are en suite & the others share 2 luxurious bathrooms. The original wooden floors have been stripped & varnished & the beautiful stained glass windows restored. As one of the owners is an artist the house is filled with original works of art.
The gardens, 1/2 acre in total, are terraced & have great views out over Ilfracombe & towards the sea. There is a 'secret' lower garden, surrounded by shrubs - its a great place to hide away with a book. The big seaview terrace, accessed from the sitting room/dining room, is completely enclosed & has a large decked area and a stone terrace with table & chairs to seat 6. The original detached Victorian vine room (complete with bountiful vine & nectarine tree) has a vintage church pew & is lovely for a morning coffee. Double doors open onto a large terrace with table & benches to seat 16 & a big charcoal BBQ. The kitchen terrace, french doors open out from the kitchen, has a bench to enjoy the afternoon sun, washing line, & pots of fresh herbs. The back garden is a series of terraces with lots of trees & shrubs. Its a great place for older kids to have adventures. The back gate opens out onto the SW coastal path where you can enjoy dramatic cliff top walks to Lee, Morthoe, Woolacombe & beyound.
The Quarry is in a conservation area, and an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Tunnels Beach, a privately owned beach with a Victorian tidal pool carved out of the rocks, is at the end of the road (open Easter - Oct half term, small charge)- a 5 min walk. The back gate leads directly onto the SW coastal path for dramatic cliff top walks. The stunning Woolacombe Bay, with its 3 miles of golden sand & well regarded surf, is just a 10 min drive. A 10 minute stroll will take you to the picturesque Ilfracombe Harbour which boasts Damien Hirst's restaurant, art galleries, ice cream parlours & boat trips around the coast. For golfers the world renowned Saunton Sands Golf Club is a 20 min drive away, Ilfracombe Golf club, Easewell & Willingcott just 5 or 10 mins drive. North Devon is a wonderful place to explore. The dramatic expanses of Exmoor & its picturesque villages, the unspoilt golden sand beaches, the imposing cliffs - its all within easy each of The Quarry.
