La Châ­taign­eraie offers a spec­tac­u­lar base for a large group or fam­i­ly gath­er­ing in the fab­u­lous French Pyrénées — just 40 min­utes from both ski resorts and beau­ti­ful Mediter­ranean beaches.

With 2 acres of gar­dens and superb views in all direc­tions, we offer a unique com­bi­na­tion of great facil­i­ties for large groups to socialise togeth­er whilst also offer­ing indi­vid­ual fam­i­lies pri­va­cy to enjoy pre­cious time away from the crowd.

There is a sub­stan­tial main house plus 2 inde­pen­dent apart­ments and a 2‑person Petit Gite which may be booked for Exclu­sive Use or as sep­a­rate units. With heat­ing through­out and two cosy log-burn­ers it is suit­able for hol­i­days all year round.

Out of peak sea­son we are hap­py to offer reduced rates for small­er groups (14 — 18) book­ing Exclu­sive Use of the main house only.

The cen­tral kitchen is equipped to cater for up to 30 peo­ple with 2 ovens, 2 hobs and 2 fridges. The impres­sive cen­tral lounge has leather sofas, log-burn­er and a cin­e­ma-style 5‑metre film screen with sur­round-sound for film evenings. Indoor din­ing for 28 can be arranged if required.

Out­doors there are plen­ti­ful choic­es of patios and ter­races enabling the whole group to BBQ and eat togeth­er at 1 table.

Each gite/​apartment is com­plete­ly inde­pen­dent with its own lounge, TV/DVD and kitchen facil­i­ties (includ­ing fridge-freez­er, microwave and dish­wash­er) offer­ing great flex­i­bil­i­ty to suit your cater­ing requirements.

Facil­i­ties include free WiFi, swim­ming pool, gym, library, flood-lit boules court (which dou­bles-up for bad­minton and vol­ley­ball), moun­tain bikes and games room with a great selec­tion of board games, library, table-foot­ball and pool table. Gar­dens offer plen­ty of space for team games along with areas of peace and tranquillity.

Our Chef à Domi­cle” can offer rea­son­ably priced, restau­rant-qual­i­ty meals. The local boulan­gerie deliv­ers fresh bread and crois­sants to your door each morn­ing mak­ing break­fast so easy.

It is a 15 minute walk through orchards and along­side the Riv­er Rot­ja to the cen­tre of the vil­lage. Sahorre has a bistro/​bar which will hap­pi­ly cater for large goups, along with a hand­ful of small shops and farms sell­ing their own produce.

The famous spa town of Ver­net les Bains is less than 2 miles away, with a wider selec­tion of shops and restau­rants. It has a super­mar­ket, spa, swim­ming pool, ten­nis courts, a mar­ket 3 morn­ings a week and even a casino!

The for­ti­fied medieval vil­lage of Ville­franche de Con­flent is 5 miles away – the start­ing point of the famous moun­tain rail­way, Le Petit Train Jaune.

There are many miles of beau­ti­ful walks direct­ly from our prop­er­ty. If you pre­fer to sim­ply relax by the pool, the area is renowned as the sun­ni­est in France with a glo­ri­ous 320 days of sun­shine every year.

Beau­ti­ful all year round, just 45 min­utes from either Mediter­ranean beach­es or ski resorts we real­ly do offer the best of both worlds.

Indoors

We offer qual­i­ty, com­fort­able accom­mo­da­tion. What sets La Chataign­eraie apart is that fam­i­lies can have the space and pri­va­cy of their own gite / apart­ment, whilst also offer­ing spa­cious accom­mo­da­tion for the whole group to be together.

Out­doors

We are locat­ed in the beau­ti­ful and tran­quil Rot­ja Val­ley suround­ed by farms, with stun­ning moun­tain views in all direc­tions. We have 2 acres of gar­dens to explore with an 11m swim­ming pool, and a flood­lit boules court (which also impro­vis­es as a bad­minton or vol­ley­ball court), gar­dens and woodland.

You will find sev­er­al dif­fer­ent patios and ter­races offer­ing a vari­ety of dif­fer­ent seat­ing areas giv­ing plen­ty of space for the whole group to sit together.…and plen­ty of peace­ful shady spots to curl up with a book and enjoy the views. There are large lawned areas for an infor­mal game of foot­ball or rounders and guests are wel­come to help them­selves to fruit when in sea­son (cher­ries, loquats, figs, grapes, chest­nuts, wal­nuts etc.)

The Riv­er Rot­ja is a 2 minute walk from the bot­tom of our gar­den with a des­ig­nat­ed fish­ing area and lots of boul­ders to clam­ber over. There are many miles of beau­ti­ful cir­cu­lar walks direct­ly from the house (although be warned.… noth­ing is flat!)

The gar­den is a par­adise for bird and but­ter­fly watchers.

We have 2 bicy­cles avail­able free of charge, with a fur­ther 6 high­er-spec moun­tain bikes avail­able for a small dai­ly main­te­nance charge.

There are 3 good qual­i­ty gas bar­be­ques which you are wel­come to use in sep­a­rate eat­ing areas, or to bring togeth­er for the whole group to enjoy meals together.

Local Area

This area real­ly does offer some­thing for every­one. Whether you are seek­ing thrills and adven­ture, his­to­ry and cul­ture or walk­ing in our glo­ri­ous moun­tains, you will be spoilt for choice.

We are less than an hour from beau­ti­ful mediter­ranean beach­es in one direc­tion and the ski resorts of the Pyre­nees in the oth­er. We are sur­round­ed by some of France’s Plus Beaux Vil­lages” includ­ing Eus, Mos­set, Evol, Castel­nou and the near­by World Her­itage site of Ville­franche de Con­flent. This is also the start­ing point of the famous Petit Train Jaune — the his­toric, sin­gle-track moun­tain railway.

Near­by you will find ancient monas­tries such as St Mar­tin du Canigou, the caves of the Grandes Canel­lettes, Vauban’s Fort Liberia, the ani­mal park of Casteil and the Ther­mal Spas of Ver­net les Bains, St Thomas and Llo. For adven­ture seek­ers there is canyon­ning, gorge-walk­ing, aer­i­al walk­ways and white-water rafting.

The Langue­doc is, of course, famous for its wines and this is a renowned fruit-grow­ing area.

There are sev­er­al reg­u­lar local mar­kets, large and small, where you can buy local produce.

We are in easy walk­ing dis­tance of our local bistrot and there are some real­ly excel­lent restau­rants near­by in Ver­net les Bains, Ville­franche, Tau­rinya and Eus.
