A big group can self-cater here in great style. The house has grand salons, elaborate fireplaces in almost every room and beautifully furnished bedrooms with pure silk curtains and antique English and French furnishings. There’s even a children’s bathroom in bright colours and fun designs. The gardens are well maintained and include original outbuildings, many fruit trees, a vegetable garden and beautifully-kept lawns.

Guests will find the chateau enormously comfortable. High painted ceilings and oak panelling make the reception rooms feel luxurious with plenty of space to spread out and relax. There’s a salon with a carved oak fireplace, a formal dining room, billiard room, a study, a grand hall (ideal for a group celebration), a kitchen with dishwasher and wood-fired stove and a stained glass jardin d'hiver.

The house stands in a forest clearing, close to the village of Canaples, which in turn is only one and a quarter hour's drive from Calais. It all feels delightfully rural and yet you are only 15 minutes from the A16 motorway.
