| Description of property |

Enjoying a beautiful location in the heart of Scotland, Stronvar House offers you a unique self-catering holiday for up to 12 at an affordable price. One private unit comprising the ground and first floors of David Carnegie's major Victorian addition - the front door, entrance hall, main hall, drawing room, dining room, kitchen and main staircase leading to five en-suite bedrooms. The accommodation is as elegant and peaceful as it was for the original Lairds' guests. The modern additions of en-suite facilities make it a little more comfortable for today's guests. Whatever your reason for visiting Scotland: * a family gathering * a group of discerning friends * finding your Scottish roots * taking in the clean mountain air * getting away from the stress of modern life You'll find this central location, on the shore of Loch Voil in the Braes O' Balquhidder, the ideal base. The large entrance hall with oak staircase, leads up to the main hall. The Carnegie crest is displayed in the stained glass window, and the walls are covered with tartans from the local clans. The oak staircase in the main hall leading to the first floor, dominates this hall. Doors lead off to the Drawing Room, and the Dining Room. The natural light supplied by the windows in the roof provide the ideal conditions to view the alabaster sculptures set in the walls and the Laird's collection of antiques and curios that deck the walls. The Drawing Room:- This quiet room has bay windows overlooking the gardens and mountains to the east and south. The focal point is the white marble fireplace with it's carved eagles and handpainted Delft tiles depicting sailing ships. The plaster frieze shows Neptune. This room contains a "pianola" player piano with a selection of music rolls and a PC with 24/7 Internet connection. The Dining Room:- The beautiful and impressive marble fireplace, the thistle cornice and the large picture windows provide the grandeur in this room. The breakfast bar gives you breakfast with a view. The other door in this room leads to the kitchen. This modern kitchen with traditional feel provides you with the facilities to cook for your party. This long room was the servery, where the food was brought up from the kitchen to be finally prepared before serving. The original crockery cupboard has been retained and the fitted kitchen has been built to be sympathetic to this large piece of furniture. Appliances include electric cooker, washing machine, refrigerator, freezer, dishwasher, microwave oven and kettles. A tumble dryer is situated in the north tower. The bedrooms:- The MacGregor room has views over Loch Voil and the mountains to the north. Two single beds, private bathroom with toilet in the north tower, colour television, clock radio, trouser press and hair dryer. The MacLeod room has views over Loch Voil, the mountains to the north, and the glen to the east. A four poster double bed and a single bed, private bathroom with a second toilet in the east tower, colour television, clock radio, trouser press and hair dryer. The Robertson room is situated over the entrance hall with commanding views of the mountains and the glen to the east. A double bed, private shower room, colour television, clock radio, trouser press and hair dryer. The Carnegie Room is large room with views to both the east and the south. Three single beds, private dressing/bathroom, colour television, clock radio, and hair dryer. The MacLaren room has views over the mountains and the garden to the south. A four poster double bed, private bathroom, colour television, clock radio, trouser press and hair dryer. Outside is a large secluded private garden with access to miles of countryside, mountains and loch. Available Easter to end of September only.

The whole house is carpeted. It measure about 1000 square meters on two floors. All the rooms are large with views over the surrounding spectacular countryside. Originally a 500 year old fortified castle, it was remodelled with the large Victorian mansion house being added in 1850 by the Laird David Carnegie who employed a famous Scottish Architect David Bryce.
The House is in the heart of the countryside. You will possibly meet the local Deer, Pine marten, squirrel and spectacular birdlife.
This is a comfortable old house with creaking floorboards plus perhaps an old ghost or two.
If you want Victoriana with even older historic features this is the place.
If you want a modern antiseptic new build with no character, you must go elsewhere!

There are many pubs with excellent beer in local villages. Glasgow and Edinburgh are easily accessible by Trains from Stirling or Dunblane which avoids difficult parking in those cities. Our guests sometimes arrange our local village bus company to transport them to Edinburgh and back for a very economical price in a private minibus. Our nearest Airports are Glasgow (GLA) and Edinburgh (EDI), both are about 60 miles from us. There is no public transport from Stronvar so cars are essential . Local Village shops (Strathyre and Lochearnhead both with post offices) are excellent for all general groceries (And local gossip and advice!) Callander 12 miles (16km) away has two supermarkets. Churches: Balquhidder is Presbyterian, Lochearnhead is Episcopalian and there is also Roman Catholic in Callander and all are very welcoming. Sports centre with swimming pool at Callander. Tennis in Strathyre. Our garden is secluded and there is free access to all the countryside and mountains. A map is essential and we recommend 2.5km to 1cm scale or borrow the one in Stronvar House.
