By Air
For most people travelling a distance the quickest way has to be by air and with an increasing number of low-cost airlines, it is becoming a very attractive option. New routes are opening all the time and by booking online you can really snap up some bargains.
Below is a list of airlines who currently fly between the UK, Ireland and France. Click on the links to find out more.
But this may not be the cheapest option...
By Ferry
Ferry operators now run competitive routes to France, Ireland and further afield. Weighed up against the cost of air taxes, excess loads, cost of car hire and the inconvenience of baggage check in (not to mention carbon footprints!), they may be an option not considered. Just think of all those goodies you can bring back in the comfort of your own car!
Ferry prices are seasonal and depend on the size of your vehicle, although fares are coming down due to the increasing competition from low-cost airlines and high speed ferries.
Return fares are now available for as little as £50 with SpeedFerries on the Dover-Boulogne route.
Via the Channel Tunnel
Driving to France is easiest by Eurotunnel. Simply drive onto one of the shuttle trains at Folkstone and 35 minutes later you arrive in Calais (you barely get time to eat your sandwiches!). The service runs continuously and there are up to four crossings an hour. Once on the shuttle you can get out of your car to stretch your legs and there are toilets on board but little else. You can just turn up and buy a ticket, but booking is advisable at busy times. Fares compare favourably with the ferry services.
Car Hire
Need car hire?...or even bus hire if there are alot of you! You may find the links below useful.
By Rail
...as Jimmy Savile would say, "this is the age of the train".
